The Affordable Smartphone OnePlus Z Aka One Plus Nord Slated to be Launched in July in India and Europe
Putting an end to all speculations and rumors, OnePlus finally confirmed working on a “new, more affordable smartphone product line.” It also stated the new budget-smartphone to be launched first in India and Europe and later North America.
The new development was revealed by the OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau via a forum post on the OnePlus Community site. The brand has also created an Instagram account with the username as “OnePlusLiteZThing”. There, the July launch date has been confirmed. However, Lau omitted to mention any details on the launch of the first smartphone in the new series. But going by the rumors and the newly created Instagram account, it looks probable that it will be the OnePlus Z.
In the forum post, Lau stated that the brand has always started relatively small and this new product would also be no exception. He stated that they would be first introducing it in Europe and India and later plan to bring these more affordable smartphones to North America as well in the not too distant future.
The new mobile will have a new team that would be headed by Paul Yu, the current head of the Mobile Development Department of OnePlus. According to the executive, the new team will boast of staff from all over the world.
Confirmation of the July launch
Before the launch, OnePlus started a private Instagram account to generate some buzz and hype. It currently has four posts. Its latest post shows a Morse code that decodes to ‘July’. From this code, it is speculated that the first smartphone of the new lineup will be launched in July.
Going by the rumors, July is the suggested launch date of the new smartphone that is likely to be the OnePlus Z, aka OnePlus Nord. But it is safe to take the news with a pinch of salt and wait for a confirmation from the company.
Is the move a new plan to attract fresh audience?
Going by history, it is not the first attempt of OnePlus to launch something affordable to the market. Its earlier attempt to launch the budget model, the OnePlus X in November 2015 has failed miserably.
Nevertheless, this new move might succeed in attracting the crowd that was earlier shying away from OnePlus phones because of their premium pricing. After all, the brand embarked on its journey in 2014 as the “flagship killer” maker.
