Best Washing machines in India
- Good wash quality with low noise and vibration.
- Value For Money Option with plethora of features.
- Excellent after-sales service in most cities.
- Steam function not especially useful.
The washing machine comes with a plethora of features and wash programs to cater to the diverse needs of an Indian family.
There are 13 wash programs and you can download wash programs from SmartThinQ app using NFC technology. The wash programs are Cotton, Cotton+, Mix, EasyCare, Duvet, Allergy Care, Baby Steam Care, Sportswear, Gentle, Dark Wash, Stain Care, Silent Wash and Quick 30. Out of this, Baby Steam care and Allergy Care are steam wash functions where a jet of steam is injected to the drum to sanitize the clothes. However, it is doubtful if steam care provides any noteworthy benefits as the clothes are already drenched in hot water.
The spin speed can be set at a maximum of 1000 RPM ( which is fairly good for a 6 Kg washing machine). The maximum temperature of wash is 95 degree Celsius. In their 7 Kg variant, the maximum RPM is 1200 cycles.
The washing machine also has functions like Intensive- which enhances wash quality; pre-rinse for dislodging stubborn stains; Time Save that reduces wash duration; Rinse+ for extra rinsing; Delay end for stopping time delay; Add item for adding clothes in between the wash cycle and Crease Care for reducing creases and tangles. In addition, it has child lock, time delay and Tub Clean functions too.
What we found is that LG is comparatively more silent than Bosch at maximum spin speed.
A noteworthy feature of LG washing machine is the smart diagnosis system whereby technical problem can be troubleshot by calling LG customer care helpline and placing the phone on the appliance. The washing machine communicates with the computer and helps technicians be well-equipped before they visit for service.
When it comes to washing quality, LG FHT1006ZNW is as good as the previous option from Bosch. Be it food stains on baby clothes, dirty uniforms or large bed linen, LG FHT1006ZNW cleans it pretty well.
Coming to the operation, the LG FHM1006ADW features inverter Direct Drive, which reduces energy consumption, noise and vibration.
LG also features 6 Motion Direct Drive, which helps clean clothes without damaging them. The 6 motions are- stepping, filtration, scrubbing, tumble, rolling and swinging.
Talking about the durability, the drum of LG front loaders made of stainless steel remains rust-free even after a decade of use. Thankfully, it has a Tub clean function that helps keep the drum clean and remove any scaling. The body too appears fairly strong.
But we have generally observed that they tend to develop rust in the lower portion, especially if its kept in the balcony or work area where it is directly exposed to outside weather.
Water and Energy Consumption:
The LG FHT1006ZNW consumes a maximum of 50 litres of water for a wash program.
As for energy consumption, it takes an average of 0.077 units per Kg per wash cycle.
Note however that for washing in 95-degree hot water, the energy consumption could go as high as 2.5 units per wash cycle.
Talking about the drawbacks, the inlet pipe is just 1 metre long and so, most probably, you may have to buy a longer pipe if the water tap is far away from the washing machine.
Overall Rating: 4/5 based on 58 customer reviews.
- Variety of wash programs
- Apt for those with sensitive skin and allergies
- Functions available to save water and energy.
- Maximum temperature up to 90 degrees for cotton programs
- Requires water flow rate of 7-9 litre per minute, which some independent houses may lack.
- Wash quality in speed perfect is not enough for stained clothes.
- Gasket prone to mold formation
With excellent wash quality, durability and optimal energy and water consumption, Bosch WAK24268IN is one of the best washing machines for a family with 4 to 5 members.
Bosch WAK24268 is equipped with a variety of wash programs– 15 to be precise, and each caters to different types of clothes and fabrics.
Bosch is also the only washing machine manufacturer in India that is ECARF certified. Their Allergy Plus Wash Program does an excellent job of eliminating allergens and detergent residue by incorporating a longer rinse cycle.
The wash programs are- Sportswear, Jeans, Allergy Plus, Kidswear, Saree, Monsoon, Super 15/30, Cotton, Synthetic Daily wash, Delicate/Silk, Wool, Drum Clean and Rinse.
The Saree wash program is useful to clean the long fabric all the while reducing excessive tangling and creases. While the Monsoon wash program gives a final warm rinse which reduces moisture by further 10% and gives a fresh feeling to the clothes too.
Bosch has also taken care to incorporate features that further optimize water and energy consumption.
The SpeedPerfect feature can reduce wash duration by 65%, while EcoPerfect can reduce energy consumption by up to 66% but lowering water consumption and temperature.
The Water Plus function when invoked adjusts water consumption depending on the load and fabric.
The washing machine cleans all types of stains with ease and causing minimal damage to clothes.
The structure is stable and the built quality is good. Noise during operation is also pretty low, thanks to anti-vibration design. But comparatively, we found LG to be more silent and with lesser vibration.
The wash quality is quite good that it can clean up soiled uniforms, stained baby clothes, large bed linen and heavy jeans with ease.
The clothes are washed in temperature ranging from 30 to 90 degree Celius and spin speed ranging up to a maximum of 1200 RPM.
Running at maximum RPM, clothes retain just around 53% of moisture. The temperature and spin speed settings can be adjusted ( within a range) for all wash programs.
But something we found is that if you wash the soiled clothes with Speed Perfect, you may not be quite satisfied with the wash quality.
Coming to the durability aspect, Bosch has a sturdy built. To reduce scaling on the drum, the washing machine has the Drum Clean wash program, which you could use every fortnight to cleanse the drum of detergent and hard water residues.
Water and Energy Consumption:
An average wash program takes about 47 litres of water, which is among the best.
Electricity consumption is about 1 unit per load on average. This may vary depending on the wash program and load.
For example, running a full load at 30 degree Celsius in delicate mode will result in 0.21 unit power consumption, while in 40 degree Celsius in various other wash programs will take up about 0.8 to 1 units. On the other hand, if you use Cotton wash program at a maximum temperature of 95 degree Celsius, it will consume 2.3 units of electricity.
Talking about drawbacks, many complain about the lack of prompt after-sales service in many tier-2 cities.
The inlet pipe you get along is just 1 metre long. So, you need a water tap close by else, you will have to shell out extra for the longer pipe.
Also, the water flow needs to be at least 7-9 litre per minute for uninterrupted washing. While this may not be a problem for most homes, if you live in a single-storeyed house or a place with constant water shortage, you may want to recheck the water pressure.
Also, the gasket has a flap and mold tends to get accumulated underneath it, if you don’t clean it regularly.
Though there are a few flaws, overall, Bosch WAK24268IN is an excellent option which delivers excellent wash performance, optimal water and energy consumption and superior construction quality.
Overall rating: 4.3/5 based on 2009 user reviews
A question frequently asked is about the difference between models WAK24268IN and WAK24168IN. There are a few differences in the wash programs. You can adjust the temperature and RPM of each wash program in WAK24268, while in WAK24168, you can’t adjust the temperature. WAK24268 also has a larger LED display and eco perfect, whereas WAK24168 has only Speed perfect function. Water Plus function is found in both If these features are not quite important for you, you can save about Rs. 3-4k by buying Bosch’s WAK24168 model. We explain features of WAK24168 in detail below.
- Excellent wash quality
- Robust built quality
- Has water and energy-saving functions
- Speed perfect function not good for cleaning stained clothes
- The maximum temperature is only 60 degree Celsius.
Bosch WAK24168 has a lot of similarities with the previous WAK24268. Let us take a look at the details.
The wash programs of WAK24168 includes Super 15/30, Monsoon, Saree, Hygiene, Kidswear, Drum Clean, Rinse, Cotton 40, 60, cold, Synthetics, Daily wash, Delicate/silk and wool.
The main differences compared to WAK24268 is the absence of wash programs like jeans, Allergy Plus and Sportswear. So, if you have young babies or those with skin allergies, we recommend you to buy WAK24268.
WAK24168 doesn’t have the EcoPerfect function which can be used to reduce energy consumption by lowering water usage and temperature. What this essentially means is that in WAK24168, you have no option to adjust the water temperature. The wash programs work only at the pre-programmed temperature which ranges from cold to 60 degree Celsius.
However, you do have the option to adjust the spin speed of all wash programs.
The wash quality of WAK24168 is fairly good.
In WAK24268, the water temperature can be set up to a maximum of 90 degree Celsius, but in WAK24168, the maximum temperature is only 60 degrees Celsius.
Owing to the large drum size, you can wash jeans, large duvets and curtains with ease. The maximum RPM of 1200 cycles also ensures that the excess moisture is drained off.
Just like WAK24268, the wash quality is affected when you use Speed Perfect. We don’t advice washing stained clothes in this mode.
Even though Bosch claims to have anti-vibration design, the noise level and vibration is a bit higher than LG. It is not uncomfortably high. But it is noticeable.
The built quality of WAK24168 seems quite good. It looks very durable and to enhance the drum life, you have a drum wash cycle to remove any scaling.
Water and Energy Consumption:
Water consumption of this model is almost the same as the previous WAK24268 at 47 litres average.
The energy consumption would be lower for most wash programs as the maximum temperature is 60 degrees Celsius and not 90 degrees Celsius as in WAK24268.
The drawbacks of WAK24268 like high water pressure requirement, small pipes are there for WAK24168 too.
In addition, the temperature can be set only to 60 degree Celsius and also, there is no Ecoperfect function.
The gasket design of this washing machine is also similar and tends to get moldy if not cleaned properly.

LG 8 Kg FHT1408ZWL is one of the latest models with innovative features and functions. Owing to the large capacity, it is ideal for families with 6 plus members.
One of the best aspects of LG washing machines is the inverter drive technology. While in the conventional system, the motor is connected to the drum using a belt, here the motor is directly connected to the drum. This way, there are less moving parts, less energy loss and lesser vibration. This gives it an edge over other brands which use belt-driven technology.
Compared to the base model LG FHMW100GADW, the advantages are that it has Wi-Fi connectivity, Steam cycles and options like Turbo wash, Prewash, Intensive and laundry add.
There are 13 wash programs in-built in this washing machine and you can download wash program using Download cycle feature from AiThinQ app. The wash programs are Cotton, Cotton+, Mix, Easy Care, Duvet, Allergy Care, Baby Steam Care, Sportswear, Gentle Care, Delicate, Stain Care, Silent Wash and Speed 14. Out of these, Allergy Care and Baby Steam care comes under Steam Cycle.
The main advantage that LG claim is that Steam cycle can sterilize bacteria and other allergens. But when it comes to washing quality, it doesn’t make much difference.
As it has wi-fi connectivity, you can operate the washing machine from anywhere provided it is switched on. Moreover, the Smart Diagnosis feature helps find up to 86 errors.
The washing machine also has features like water level sensor which uses just enough water as per the wash load; load imbalance feature that distributes the clothes evenly to reduce vibration; door open sensor that prevents water from leaking if in case a thin cloth gets caught in the door and laundry load sensor that optimizes wash process for best quality washing.
Overall, the features are quite sophisticated with a lot of improvement over the base model.
As the washing machine uses direct drive technology, you observe it to be quite silent and vibration-free while washing clothes and spinning.
Thanks to different wash programs, ability to wash in piping hot water of up to 95 degree Celsius, it has excellent wash quality. Be it food-stained baby clothes, cloth diapers or soiled uniform, the washing machine takes care of it all with ease.
Water and Energy Consumption:
As per the BEE rating, the washing machine consumes 8.2 litres of water per kg of cloth. So, for a full load, it comes to around 62 litres of water.
As for energy consumption, it uses 0.082 units per Kg, which comes to 0.65 units for a full load. But if you wash in hot water or steam wash cycles, the energy consumption will rise considerably.
Other than that you may find delays in installation and after-sales service, you can hardly find a problem with the product as such.
Overall Rating: 4.3/5 based on 103 customer reviews.
Bosch WAB16060IN is one of the top-selling front loaders in the 6 Kg segment. Let us take a look at its details.
- Excellent wash quality
- Economical in terms of energy and water consumption.
- Has a variety of wash programs..
- Temperature and spin speed cannot be adjusted.
The WAB16060IN comes with 15 wash programs, making it apt for washing a wide variety of clothes.
The wash programs include Super 15’30’, Hygiene, Kids Wear, Drum Clean, Delicate / Silk, Wool, Synthetics and Daily Wash.
The Hygiene wash program runs at 90 degree Celsius. Otherwise, all other wash programs run at 30 to 60 degree Celsius.
Talking about other functionalities, it comes with EcoPerfect and SpeedPerfect which helps reduce water consumption and wash duration respectively.
It also has functions like ActiveWater which increases water consumption to thoroughly wash the clothes; Foam detection system to remove the excess foam and Unbalanced load detection.
While the Active Water and Foam detection system improve wash quality, Unbalanced load detection reduces vibration and helps avoid damages to the drum.
Talking about the performance, user reviews are fairly positive. Wash quality is excellent.
However, as with all Bosch machines, SpeedPerfect is not meant to be used for washing soiled clothes because by reducing the wash duration, wash quality gets compromised.
The machine makes noticeable noise while spinning at maximum speed. This is not a defect. Rather, that is how it is.
The positives are that its energy and water consumption is lesser. The allergy wash program is quite apt for those who suffer from any skin allergies as it completely eliminates any detergent residue or allergens from the clothes.
But the negatives are that its maximum spin speed is lesser. LG and Samsung have a maximum spin speed of 1000 cycles. Also, you can set many of the wash programs to 90 degree Celsius, while in Bosch, that is rather limited. You don’t have the option to adjust RPM too.
Water and Energy Consumption:
Bosch did not provide the average water consumption of this model. However, going by Bosch’s design, it is likely to be lesser than other washing machines in the segment.
Power consumption varies between 0.2 to 2 units per wash cycle. If you wash in 30-40 degree Celsius, power consumption is just about 0.5 to 0.9 units per wash. But at 90 degree Celsius, the power consumption peaks to 2 units.
Overall Rating: 4/5 based on 1762 customer reviews.
- Value for money option
- Only budget friendly washing machine with steam function.
- Temperature can be set up to 90 degree Celsius.
- Installation service is not prompt
Samsung WW60R20GLMA is the best budget-friendly 6 Kg front loader that you could opt for. Its wash quality is fairly good and is quite efficient when it comes to energy and water consumption.
The wash programs are basic.
But it is the only budget-friendly front loader that has a Hygiene steam function which can remove stubborn dirt and allergens. In this wash program, a powerful jet of steam helps dislodge the dirt and completely sanitize the clothes.
That being said, unlike LG FH0H3NDNL02, it doesn’t have dedicated wash programs for kidswear, duvet and bed linen. Rather, you will have to wash them all in cotton wash program. And it could lead to tangling and excessive creasing especially when you wash bed linen.
The wash temperature can be adjusted from 20 degrees to up to 90 degrees.
Similarly, the spin speed can also be set up to 1000 RPM, which helps dry clothes fairly well. But if you are washing delicate clothes, you could opt for lower RPM to ensure the clothes are not damaged. Just like IFB and Bosch, the duration for express wash is just 15 minutes.
The washing machine also has options to pre-soak and time delay.
The washing machine is quite efficient and the wash quality is pretty good. You can clean up all regular stains with ease. And for stubborn stains, you have pre-soak function too.
It doesn’t make much noise and is low on vibration too. The maximum noise it makes is 61 dB which isn’t that loud for a 6 Kg washing machine.
Samsung claims that its motor has enhanced durability of up to 20 years, as it uses Digital Inverter Technology. But Samsung offers only a 5-year warranty on the motor which makes you wonder about their 20-year claim.
Water and Energy Consumption:
The washing machine uses a maximum of 60 litres for an elaborate wash program. Its energy consumption ranges from 1.9 to 2.3 units depending on the temperature of the water.
There are hardly any complaints about the product. But when it comes to after-sales service and installation, there are plenty of complaints about delays and even no showup.
Given the competitive price and fairly good wash quality, it could be one of the best budget-friendly options in the 6 Kg segment.
Overall Rating: 4.3/5 based on 864 customer reviews.
- Fairly good wash quality
- Budget-friendly option
- Features are basic
- A lot of complaints can be seen about delivery and installation
IFB Diva Aqua is one of the best budget-friendly front loading washing machines available in India. Its features are basic. But it is sufficient for a 2-4 member family that don’t get their clothes much soiled.
The washing machine has 8 wash programs. They are Gentle, Woollen, Cotton, Cotton Eco, Mixed Fabrics, Quick Wash, Rinse and Drain+Spin.
You don’t have any performance-enhancing features like pre-rinse, intensive or medic rinse, but you do get an option “Rapid wash” using which you can reduce the wash duration.
The child lock feature is also available.
The maximum spin speed is 800 RPM and you can wash clothes in cold, warm or hot water. Extensive options to adjust spin speed and temperature are not available in Diva Aqua.
As with all IFB washing machines, it has the Aqua Energie feature whereby the bicarbonates in the water gets dissolved to soften water and hence provide better wash quality. ( Works for TDS less than 250)
The common features it lack is delay start and ready in timer.
Even though the number of wash programs is limited, the washing quality is decent. Dirt and stain get removed efficiently provided you use a good quality detergent.
The vibration and noise is also bearable.
Even though the maximum spin speed is just 800 RPM, the excess moisture goes away well enough.
Water and Energy Consumption:
The washing machine uses close to 50 litres of water for a full load. This may however vary depending on the wash load and wash program.
The energy consumption is less than 1 unit for Cotton Eco in 60 degree Celsius.
The features of the washing machine are quite basic
You do find a number of complaints about delivery and after-sales service. Otherwise, the product as such seems fairly good.
Overall rating: 4/5 based on 1841 customer reviews.
- Wide variety of wash programs and features
- Optimal consumption of water and electricity
- Frequent complaints about installation delays.
IFB Senator Aqua is a pretty good option for those looking for a larger washing machine suitable for family with 5 plus members.
The washing machine has numerous wash programs for a wide variety of clothes from delicate silk mix sarees to heavy curtain and duvet.
There are a total of 15 wash programs and spin speed and temperature of each program can be individually set.
Perhaps a unique aspect is the Program Repeat wash program. For washing your regular clothes, which usually comes up more frequently, you could set the wash program and customize the temperature, spin and other options. This way, you save time as you needn’t adjust the settings every time you need to wash it.
The temperature of wash programs can be set from 20 to 95 degree Celsius, while spin speed can be set up to 1400 cycles.
As with all modern washing machines, it too has child lock and time delay functions too.
The wash quality is excellent. It can handle all types of stains with ease. Of course, you may have to use the pre-soak function for stubborn stains.
Talking about the wash program duration, the express wash lasts just 15 minutes. But it is ideal only for unsoiled clothes that need a quick wash.
The cotton wash program lasts about 2 hours 15 minutes and can be used for washing bed and bath linen.
The mixed fabrics, which is opted regularly for daily wears last about 1 hour 10 minutes. Of course, if you adjust the settings like, pre-wash, rinse, easy iron etc., the duration would increase accordingly.
The built quality is pretty good and to ensure the durability of the drum, there is a Drum Clean wash program which removes hard water deposit and detergent residues by thorough cleaning in hot water.
Water and Energy Consumption:
The water consumption is also optimal with full load cotton wash program consuming 60 L of water and most other programs consuming much lesser quantity.
Talking about the drawbacks, lack of prompt after-sales service is a problem faced by many.
There are also complaints about damages in transit. So, take care to inspect thoroughly at the time of delivery.
Overall rating: 4.2/5 based on 404 customer reviews
- Belt-less technology ensures low noise and vibration.
- Excellent wash quality for a top loader.
- Has features for improved durability.
- No hot water inlet pipe or temperature settings.
With 6.2 Kg capacity, maximum RPM of 700 cycles, multiple wash programs and smart inverter motor, the LG T7281NDDLG/ T7288NDDLG/GD top load washing machine is an ideal option for a small family with less than 3-4 members.
Just like LG’s front load washing machine, LG T7281NDDLG/ T7288NDDLG/GD top loader too employs smart inverter motor, which is a belt-less technology that is highly durable, and low on vibration and noise.
It also features LG’s new Turbo Drum, whereby water inside the drum moves in one direction and the drum itself moves in the other direction.
The washing machine has 6 water levels, the soak time can be set from 3 to 25 minutes and the wash programs include normal, gentle, quick wash, strong, aqua reserve, favourite and tub clean.
The motor is also protected with a casing to prevent corrosion, humidity, dust and insects. And to enhance the durability of the drum, there is a Tub Clean wash program that removes any odour, residue and mould formation
Thanks to Turbo Drum, clothes get excellent agitation and hence better washing with the LG top loaders.
The clothes inside the drum are subject to water that moves in three motions, namely agitation which removes tough stains, rotation for tangle-free washing and swing for delicate clothes. LG claims that this helps remove tough stains with minimal damage to the clothes.
The user reviews are fairly positive. The majority are happy with the wash quality, which they say is pretty good considering it is a top load washing machine.
Many are of the opinion that the “Normal” wash program is sufficient for daily wears and that gentle wash is not quite good enough for removing dirt and stains.
As the washing machine has a maximum RPM of about just 700 cycles, clothes don’t come off as dry as other top load washing machines that are capable of 1000 RPM spin speed.
The washing machine doesn’t have an inbuilt heater or additional inlet pipe for hot water too. So, unless you connect to a geyser, you can’t wash clothes in hot water.
Water and Energy Consumption:
The washing machine uses approximately 120 litres of water and 1.5 to 2.5 units of electricity for a wash program. This may vary depending on the load and wash program chosen.
The washing machine has no hot water inlet pipe or in-built heater. So, you can’t really wash your clothes with hot water.
Also, a few rue that the build quality could have been better. So, inspect thoroughly at the time of delivery to ensure there are no damages to the product.
Unlike other brands, installation is fairly prompt for LG in most cities, which is a huge positive. Overall, the washing machine is a pretty good buy with decent options for a small family.
Overall rating: 4.3/5 based on 1183 customer reviews
- Has a number of wash programs and water levels
- Excellent wash quality.
- Low vibration
- Maximum RPM comparatively low. So, clothes don’t come out very dry.
- No hot water inlet or temperature setting.
Bosch WOE654W0IN top loading washing machine with 680 RPM and 9 wash programs is a pretty good choice for a small family with 3-4 members.
The washing machine employs a unique power wash, intelligent wave drum movement and dynamic water flow to remove tough stains with minimal fabric damage.
There are 9 wash programs, namely daily wash, delicates, jeans, refresh, intensive, quick wash, bedsheets and drum drying. The water level can be set to 8 levels and there are also options for time delay and rinse hold.
To further customize the wash program, it also has a speed perfect function to reduce the wash time by 20%.
The user-friendliness is enhanced through the employment of magic filter to collect lint and dual dispenser for liquid and powdered detergent.
The door is made of toughened glass that can withstand the weight and softened closing ensures its durability too.
As the machine has memory function, it resumes wash cycle mid-way even in case of power failure.
Talking about the performance, the wash quality is good.
However, as with most top load washing machines, if you have tough stains or to clean collars, you will have to do a spot cleaning.
The washing machine runs fairly silent for a top loader and with minimal vibration even while spinning at maximum speed.
On the flip side, the clothes are not quite dry as maximum spin speed is just 680 RPM.
Overall, given the price, the washing machine offers absolute value for money and is quite a good buy.
Overall rating: 4.3/5 based on 1181 customer reviews
- Highly budget friendly.
- Has a separate slot for detergent and softener.
- Dries clothes well
- No temperature settings or safety lock.
With 6.2 kg capacity and maximum of 700 RPM, this top load washing machine from Samsung is one of the best sellers in India.
The washing machine has five water level settings and six wash cycles namely normal, quick wash, delicates, blankets, jeans, soak+ normal.
It features a diamond drum that has smaller and deeper holes which prevent clothes from getting damaged. Further, the pulsator technology which has 6 blades, creates a strong stream of water to remove dirt.
In order to reduce lint on washed clothes, the lint filter is placed deeper in the drum to effectively capture all lint.
Most of the users too are of the opinion that drying function, especially Monsoon dry works pretty well in reducing the moisture content of the washed clothes.
It also has a slot for pouring detergent and softener.
The washing machine has fairly good wash quality for a top loader.
As for drying, Samsung has used Air Turbo Drying system, whereby air is taken inside the drum through minute vents to dry clothes pretty well. This also prevents mould formation inside as the drum is always dry.
Water and Energy Consumption:
The washing machine uses 160 litres of water for a wash program. The energy consumption varies between 2-3 units per wash. These values may vary depending on the wash load and settings.
The main drawbacks you find are that it doesn’t have temperature settings or a safety lock.
Overall, when you consider the price, the positive far outweigh the negatives. If you need a fully automatic top load machine with features better than Haier, then Samsung WA62M4100HT/TL is definitely the best choice.
Overall rating: 4.3/5 based on 8311 customer reviews.
- Budget-friendly option
- Low energy consumption
- Makes noticeable noise while spinning at maximum speed
If you are looking for a basic top loader, then this option from Godrej that comes at a budget-friendly price tag is something you could consider.
The washing machine comes with 6.5 Kg capacity and has 4 wash programs that can be set in 4 different water levels.
It also has options like rinse, wash and spin. For children’s safety, it has a child lock option too.
The water can be set at low, minimum, medium or high level depending on the wash load. The wash programs are regular, delicate, heavy and quick wash.
Talking about the structure, the pulsator is made from high-quality plastic, while the drums are made of stainless steel. Godrej claims that the 6 ridged pulsator and drums with small and even embossment help dislodge dirt without causing damage to the clothes.
The time remaining display is quite a useful feature. However, it doesn’t have a hot water inlet pipe or an in-built water heater, and that is a disadvantage.
The washing machine does a neat job for a top loader. In every washing program, clothes get soaked for some time to dislodge dirt and stains.
Though there are just limited wash programs, it is sufficient if you don’t have small kids or need to wash excessively stained or soiled clothes. The wash quality is also decent.
After washing, the clothes spin at maximum RPM of 700 cycles. Though it doesn’t dry as well as a front loader, when you compare it with other top loaders, it is almost at par.
A wash program on an average takes 45-60 minutes. But the quick wash takes less than 30 minutes.
A drawback, however, is that the washing machine makes noticeable noise when spinning at the maximum speed.
Water and Energy Consumption
Top loaders consume more water than front loaders. Per Kg, Godrej WTEON 650 takes around 21 litres of water. So, washing a full load will consume 125 litres of water.
Energy consumption, however, is low as it doesn’t have any heater. A full load will take less than 0.8 units of electricity.
The washing machine has sufficient programs for a top loader. The drawbacks are that it doesn’t have an in-built heater and the noise it makes while spinning.

Featuring 3 wash programs (heavy, normal and delicate), a smart scrub station for pre-treating stained clothes, a large washtub of 66 litres, multi-utility tray and a powerful impeller for quick cleaning, Whirlpool 7 kg Semi-automatic washing machine is a fairly decent machine that you can get within a budget.
As it doesn’t have an auto-soak feature, so you might have to pre-soak for the required time before you put the clothes for washing. A wash cycle is typically completed in about 30-40 minutes. One thing you have to take care is to load the washed clothes to the dryer properly because if the weight is unevenly distributed, the dryer may not work effectively.
On the positive side, the machine has two inlet pipes, so you can add hot and cold water as per requirement.
Overall, it is a budget-friendly choice for bachelors and small families.
Overall Rating: 4.3/5 based on 2500 customer reviews.
Out of the semi-automatic washing machines, LGP7550R3FA is a pretty good option for bachelors or small family with 2-4 members.
The washing machine is made of plastic body and has roller pulsator and collar scrubber that causes sufficient friction to clean collars and remove stains. However, the efficiency of these features is not as superior as one may expect.
There are 3 basic wash programs, namely, gentle, normal and strong. The spin shower feature cleans leftover detergent residue from the drum to enhance durability. Overall, the wash quality is good for a semi-automatic washing machine.
On the flip side, as with most semi-automatic washing machines, the vibration while spinning is high. Also, it doesn’t have a detergent box. This may not be a deal-breaker for most.
The washing machine overall is a good deal with sufficient features and a budget-friendly price tag.
The washing machine is available in different capacities from 6.5Kg to 9.5 Kg. You can check them out here.
With 7.2 Kg capacity, maximum RPM of 1000 cycles and three basic wash programs, namely, normal, delicate and intensive, this washing machine is a budget-friendly choice for bachelors or for 3-4 member family that doesn’t have intensive laundry requirements.
The washing machine employs Center Jet which injects strong water sprays from the central pulsator to improve washing effectiveness. The air turbo drying system takes in water from two inlets for better drying. As there are special scrub boards, the clothes are cleaned fairly thoroughly. In addition, the lint filter collects loose threads and lint to improve washing efficiency and prevent any blocks in the pipes.
With fairly good wash quality and an efficient drying system, the washing machine is highly rated as a good budget-friendly semi-automatic washing machine.

How To Choose A Washing Machine?
Let us now discuss the most important factors that you have to consider while buying a washing machine. If it has been a while since you last bought a washing machine, then we highly recommend that you read this, as newer technologies and features are being incorporated into home appliances every year.
Perhaps the first and foremost important factor that you have to consider while buying a washing machine is its capacity. The below image will help you make a decision about what capacity your washing machine ought to have.
Front Load Or Top Load?
If you are on a tight budget, then a top load model would be a better choice. Most of the models are available in the range of Rs. 7-17k. The advantages of top-load models are that you can add clothes mid-way of a wash cycle, they are ergonomically friendly (especially useful if you have trouble bending down and picking up things) and of course, it is budget-friendly too.
On the downside, the top load models consume a lot of water, power- about 120 litre plus, doesn’t clean as well as a front-load machine and have lesser features and wash programs compared to front load washing machines. Also, most of the top loaders don’t have an in-built heater.
Front-load machines are comparatively expensive but are very efficient, consumes lesser water, power and cleans clothes much better. They also have far more features, wash programs, can wash in hot water and are generally less noisy too.
You might have heard that a major disadvantage of front-load machines is that you cannot add clothes mid-way of a cycle. But manufacturers like Bosch, Samsung and IFB have now come up with advanced features that allow adding clothes mid-way of a wash cycle.
It has to be noted that most front load washing machines need a water pressure of 1 bar, meaning the water supply tank should be placed at least 16.5 feet vertical height from the washing machine. This wouldn’t be a major concern for most Indian homes as the corporation and municipal water supply maintains 1 bar water pressure.
So, to conclude, if you have a large family, or have kids who heavily soil clothes or if you are particular about cloth care and conserving electricity and water, then opt for a front load washing machine.
If you are a bachelor or a small family of 2-3 members and if your clothes don’t get heavily soiled, then a top load will be fairly good enough.
Automatic or Semi-Automatic
If you are planning to buy a top-load machine, then you have the option of automatic and semi-automatic machines.
Semi-automatic machines are wider in size as it has a separate washer and dryer. After the wash cycle is completed, you will have to manually transfer the clothes to the dryer. Semi-automatic washing machines are pretty inexpensive with a price tag of Rs. 5 to 10k.
Automatic washing machines do not require you to transfer the clothes, but with certain models like Haier, you might have to add fabric softeners/Ujala manually towards the end of the cycle.
Other Important Features You May Want To Consider-
Bosch has temperature settings from cold to up to 60 degree Celsius in their lower-end models, but up to 90 degree Celsius in their higher-end ones.
The temperature of water in LG and IFB washing machines can be cranked up to 95 degree Celsius in almost all the models. This is useful if you have small babies at home or immunity compromised family members who need to have their clothes disinfected regularly.
Most top load machines do not have temperature control settings. Instead, they have two inlet pipes for hot and cold water.
Each family has its own way of washing clothes. In our family, we always wash bath towels and bedsheets in ridiculously hot water. So, our first option is the LG. That being said, IFB or Bosch would be a better choice if you are a busy family who often forgets to put all clothes in a go.
Families with working husband and wife will find machines with 24-hour time delay setting very useful.
If you live in a place with a heavy monsoon, then Monsoon settings in IFB and Bosch, which removes odour of damp clothes and dries clothes better would be something that you need.
So, you might have to consider what are the features that you particularly need and the ones that you can compromise on. This way, you can choose an optimal solution within your budget.
If space is rather constrained, measure the dimensions of the space available before you purchase your washing machine. You might also want to keep a few inches extra space on the sides in order to allow space for vibration when washing machines spin at maximum speed.
Hard water is your washing machines biggest enemy. The dissolved salt can scale your washing machine drum, cause scale build-up inside the pipes. When this scaling comes off, it may even cause leaks inside and damage the washing machine beyond repair.
If TDS is less than 250, then you could opt for IFB washing machines which have Aqua Energie feature to break down the dissolved carbonates. If the TDS is higher than 500, we highly recommend that you get a water softener for your washing machine.
Front load washing machines are better than top load washing machines because they have more wash programs, can wash in hot water, dries clothes better and consume lesser energy and water.
While a 7 Kg front loader consumes about 50-60 litres of water for a wash, a top loader would consume as much as 120 litres. Wash quality of front loaders are better too.
Bosch, LG and Samsung are some of the most durable washing machines in India. IFB used to be good, but of late, there are a lot of complaints seen online about it.
In smart inverter drive mechanism, the motor is directly connected to the drum without a belt or pulley. This results in lesser friction, noise and enhances durability.
In India, LG and Samsung front loaders come with smart inverter drive technology.
Bosch front load washing machines consume the least water. On an average, Bosch’s 7 Kg front loaders consume about 47 litres of water many other models consume 55 litres plus.
IFB is the best washing machine for moderately hard water as Aqua Energie function is capable of breaking down bicarbonates in water. However, it is effective only if TDS level is less than 250. If the TDS is higher, then we recommend getting a water softener for your washing machine, else the salt deposit gathered over time could damage the pipe, drum and other parts.
Washing machines which have baby care wash program that can operate at upto 95 degree Celsius is best suited for washing baby clothes. Almost all front loaders from IFB, Samsung and LG and a few selected models of Bosch have this feature.
LG T7281NDDLG is one of the best top load washing machines in India
LG is better than IFB as they are more silent, vibration-free and durable. Of late, there are numerous complaints about IFB seen in many online portals.
LG, Bosch, IFB and Samsung are some of the best washing machine brands in India.
Bosch and LG have their own positives and negatives. LG uses inverter drive technology which is more silent and vibration free. They also have a wider service network.
Bosch’s washing machines are very environment friendly. It consumes lesser energy and water. There are also options to reduce washing duration depending on your needs. Also, many of Bosch washing machines are ECARF certified, which means they have allergy wash programs which help eradicate detergent residues and other allergens.
Experts are of the opinion that a washing machine ought to last for at least 10 years. If maintained well and if the water supply isn’t very hard, it could last up to 15 years too.
