Best Mixer Grinders Under 5000
Sujata is known to sell powerful and durable mixer grinders suitable for heavy-duty grinding. It is suitable for both domestic and commercial use.
The SuperMix SM comes with a 900 W motor. It has 3 jars of 1.5 litres, 600 ml and 300 ml capacity. While the smaller jars are made of stainless steel, the largest one is made of polycarbonate.
The only difference you find when comparing SuperMix with Dynamix is that the latter has all three stainless steel jars. Otherwise, there are hardly any differences.
Talking about the performance, Sujata SuperMix is fit for heavy-duty grinding including but not limited to dry grinding of hard spices like turmeric, grinding rice, idli batter, crushing ice and so on.
The manufacturers even claim that you can use it continuously for 90 minutes at a stretch without motor getting overheated. Reviewers and our tests have found it to be absolutely outstanding in performance.
The drawback we have found is that it is quite loud. Louder than other 750-watt mixer grinders popular in the market. At this price, we would have loved it if it had a lid lock. But that being said, if you fill the jar with thick liquid only up to half to three-fourths, you can be fairly sure that the lid won’t pop out.
Overall, it is definitely one of the best picks you can opt for at a price range of about Rs.5000
Though Bosch is a comparatively new entrant to the mixer grinder niche, their offerings exceed expectation in terms of quality and performance.
The Truemixx Pro range is available with 500, 600, 750 and 1000 Watt motors. As we are looking only at options priced less than Rs.5000, we consider the one with 750 Watt motor.
The mixer grinder comes with 3 stainless steel jars made of stainless steel. The largest jar has a capacity of 1.5 litres, the chutney jar has 400 ml capacity and the dry grinding jar has a 1-litre capacity.
And the best thing we liked is that all jars have a lid lock that facilitates hands-free operation. In fact, Bosch Truemixx is one of the few durable options at this price range that has lid lock.
The jars also have a flow breaker that pushes the ingredients towards the blade while it is running. This ensures that ingredients are ground uniformly and the batter gets better aeration.
Talking about the performance, you can grind soft spices like garam masala, coriander and chilly. The consistency is a bit coarse, but still acceptable. With the 1000 watt grinder, you actually get it as so fine, as if it were ground in a mill.
With the 750-watt option, grinding idli batter, making smoothies, coconut masala paste etc is pretty easy and the consistency is absolutely smooth too.
Talking about the drawbacks, it is a bit too noisy.
If you are willing to spend about Rs. 800 more, then you can get the Truemixx Pro with 4 jars. The extra one is a juicer jar with a mesh filter. Now if budget is not restricted, then we would highly recommend you to opt for the 1000 watt option which is absolutely powerful and versatile. Or you could even opt for 1000 watt Truemixx with 3 jars at a little less than Rs. 6000
If safety is a priority, then Panasonic mixer grinders would be the best option for you.
The Panasonic MX-AC400 comes with a 550 Watt motor.
The mixer grinder comes with 4 jars. The largest is a juicer jar with a mesh filter that has 1.5 Litre capacity. It is made of polycarbonate, while all the other jars are made of stainless steel.
The wet grinding jar also has the same 1.5-litre capacity. Next, you have a 1.1-litre dry grinding jar and a 400 ml chutney jar.
Just like Bosch Trumixx, Panasonic MX-AC400 also facilitates handsfree operations thanks to the lid lock. Panasonic in fact takes it a step further in terms of safety. The lid has to be properly locked to the jar and the jar has to be properly locked to the base in order for the mixer grinder to start functioning. Else, it simply refuses to start. As with all mixer grinders, it too has a non-skid base and motor overload protection switch.
While most mixer grinders have a jog dial for adjusting the speed, the Panasonic mixer grinders come with buttons.
Talking about the performance, though the motor has just 550 watts power, it is incredibly efficient. The samurai edge blades are fairly sharp and do a short work of all grinding jobs.
Grinding idli batter is quite easy. Soft spices too can be ground easily, but it doesn’t come as fine as you grind from the mill. Also, crushing ice or make turmeric powder isn’t that easy.
Overall, with excellent safety features, fairly good performance, it is quite apt for the regular needs of a 4-5 member family.
Preethi is synonymous with mixer grinders in South India. Their offerings are strong, durable and efficient. The Blue Leaf Diamond Mixer Grinder is a pretty good choice that is fairly budget-friendly, yet apt for all basic grinding work for a typical Indian kitchen.
The mixer grinder comes with a 750-watt motor.
It has 3 jars with a stainless steel body and polycarbonate lids. The largest jar has a 1.7-litre capacity. Comparatively, it has higher capacity than the largest wet grinding jars from Bosch, Sujata and Panasonic.
The middle jar has 700 ml and the chutney jar has 500 ml capacity. An advantage of this model is that it comes with a Flexi-lid. So, you can reduce the capacity of the chutney jar to 300 ml if needed. This feature becomes especially useful when you need to grind a very small quantity of chutney, masala or ginger garlic paste.
Performance-wise, the mixer grinder does a decent job. It can grind batter, nuts and make smoothies easily. Soft spices like coriander, jeera, turmeric etc can be ground in fine to coarse consistency. But grinding turmeric is a bit hard. Also, the jars do have a tendency to leak if you grind something very liquidy.
One of the major drawbacks mentioned in many reviews is that damaged products are being sold online. So, buy from a reputed seller online and thoroughly inspect upon delivery and check for defects within the return period to ensure that you haven’t got a defective piece.
Preethi Blue Leaf Platinum and Diamond have a lot of similarities. The base, motor capacity, design are all quite the same. The difference is in the jars. With the Platinum model, you get 4 jars, while Diamond comes with only 3 jars.
The four jars that come with Platinum MG 139 are a 1.7-litre wet grinding jar, 1.2-litre jar, 400 ml chutney jar and a juicer jar with mesh that has a 1.5-litre capacity. You also get a grind n store jar that has 400 ml capacity.
All the jars of Preethi Blue Leaf Diamond were made of stainless steel. But in Blue Leaf Platinum, the juicer jar is made of polycarbonate and the chutney jar has a stainless steel interior and plastic exterior.
Otherwise, in terms of grinding efficiency, safety and durability, both the models are more or less the same. We would recommend you to choose Blue Leaf Platinum only if you need the extra juicer jar.
With 4 jars, powerful motor and pleasing aesthetics, Philips Viva HL7701/00 is yet another mixer grinder under Rs. 5000 that is highly rated by users and reviewers alike.
The mixer grinder comes with a 750-watt motor. It is quite powerful and can handle day-to-day grinding jobs like making batter, crushing ice, powdering spices like coriander, chilly, jeera, fenugreek etc, with ease. Turmeric can be ground only if you break it into really small pieces.
Talking about the jars, the mixer grinder comes with 4 jars including one for juicing. The smallest chutney jar has 500 ml capacity. The next multipurpose jar has 1-litre capacity, while the blender with juicer mesh has 1.5 litre capacity. The largest jar suitable for wet grinding has a whopping 1.75-litre capacity. So, you can grind batter for 2-3 serving at a go.
Except for the juicing jar, all have a stainless steel body. The largest wet grinding jar has a dome-shaped polycarbonate lid, while all other jars have a plastic lid. While it might not pose a problem in the initial days, there is a tendency for the plastic lid to leak after a few years of use or if you grind something liquidy. Also, you might have to keep your hand on the lid so that it doesn’t pop out.
Talking about the drawbacks, the jars have the tendency to get heated up after continuous use. You might also want to inspect thoroughly at the time of delivery for defects or damages.
Otherwise, it is quite a powerful appliance that comes at a budget-friendly price tag.
Preethi Chef Pro is a basic, yet durable model from Preethi that has been in the market for many years.
The mixer grinder comes with a 750-watt motor. It is fairly efficient at grinding batter, coconut-based masala, ginger garlic paste and so on. But when you grind spices, you will find that its consistency is not fine, but rather a bit coarse. This applies for almost all spices like coriander, chilly and so on.
The unit comes with 3 jars with a stainless steel body and polycarbonate lids and plastic handles. The jars are fairly durable. But after prolonged usage ( 4+ years) you do find that the handles become a bit loose. Now even if due to any mishaps you need to change the jar, spares are easily available. But keep the lids of the old jar as the spares with plastic lid gets lose and leads to spills.
The safety features include overload protection switch, shock-proof ABS plastic body and Skidproof base.
Overall, it is a basic budget-friendly model that is suited for all basic needs of an Indian kitchen, albeit not that heavy-duty.
