When it comes to choosing a front load washing machine, majority of consumers opt for one amongst LG, Bosch or IFB. After all, they are market leaders in the front load washing machine market with IFB having 39% market share, LG having 32.6% and Bosch less than 10% market share, but growing rapidly. Whirlpool, Samsung and Videocon on the other hand have minority market share and are yet to establish themselves as contenders as market leaders.
So, when you ask which is the best front load washing machine, we will have to say that LG, Bosch and IFB are pretty close in terms of performance, durability and customer satisfaction, that it would be unfair choose only one. So, we here talk about the main aspects and features that differentiate each brands so that you can map it with your unique requirement to choose the one that suits you the best.
Unlike Bosch and LG, IFB is an Indian brand that is reputed for selling high quality durable washing machines. As I have mentioned in other articles, my in-laws used IFB front loaders for long 20 years before replacing it with a new washing machine. So, if you take proper care of your IFB machine, you can be rest assured that it will last.
A unique feature of IFB washing machine is the Aqua Energie function. It is a treatment device that breaks bi-carbonates in water in to microscopic crystals. This crystals flow with the water and thus improves the lathering ability of water.
So, if you live in an area with particularly hard water ( TDS less than 250), then it is highly advisable to opt for IFB water softeners as it offers better wash quality, reduces detergent consumption and minimizes traces of washing powder in washed clothes. Moreover, scaling on components like heater and tub is also minimized with Aqua energie function.
Bosch requires minimum 1 bar water pressure for proper functioning. While this is not a problem with most households, if you feel the water pressure in your home is low or if you have frequent water supply problems, then reconsider your decision to buy a Bosch Front Loader.
If water pressure at your home is fine, then we highly recommend Bosch washing machines as the German brand is known to be top in terms of durability and performance. Up till a few years back, IFB was using Bosch’s technology and most critics are of the opinion that this is the reason for IFB’s performance and durability.
Bosch also keeps innovating and churns out products apt for the Indian market. They keep working to reduce water consumption, improve wash quality and brings out wash programs for Indian demographic. They pioneered by bringing “Saree” wash program in their washing machines.
Also, Bosch has wash programs like Allergy Plus suitable for people with sensitive skin. In this was mode, the clothes are washed thoroughly to eradicate even minute particles of detergents and allergens.
Their monsoon mode is also useful for people living in areas with heavy rain and less sunshine as it can freshen up clothes and eliminate the damp smell in just less than 15 minutes.
LG washing machines are jack of all trades. They fare well in almost all aspects. They are durable, high performing and come with a wide variety of wash programs. From baby care for cleaning cloth diapers and nappies to cotton large for washing large bed sheets, they have wash programs for each and every unique requirement of a family.
Something truly remarkable is that their customer service is quite prompt compared to Bosch and IFB.
If having easy access to after sales service, durability and variety of wash programs are your criteria, then LG is a suitable choice for you.
Next, we discuss the top models of each of these brands to help you make an informed purchase decision.

LG FH0H3NDNL02 is an upgrade to their previous model LG FH0B8NDL22 6 kg Front Loading Washing Machine. The price has decreased and the differences are quite nominal. There are a few differences in the wash program and the control panel is completely touch based without any buttons.
The washing machine has 13 wash programs namely, Baby care, skin care, duvet, easy care, mix, cotton large, cotton. Sportswear, delicate, wool, intensive 60, Quick 30, Rinse and Spin. Compared to the previous model, cotton eco has been replaced with Cotton large in FH0H3NDNL02.
The maximum RPM of the washing machine remains at 1000 cycles. The temperature can be adjusted from cold, 20, 30, 40, 60 and 95 degree. In the older model, 20 degree was not available—again seems like a difference for name sake.
In terms of appearance, the main difference is the touch control panel devoid of any buttons. It gives a sophisticated appeal. The manufacturers claim the touch control panel to be water proof. However, to be on the safer side, it is advisable to keep the panel completely away from water.
The wash quality is pretty good, thanks to the 6D washing system that comprises of stepping, filtration, scrubbing, tumble, rolling and swing.
As with all LG washing machines, LG FH0H3NDNL02 also has invert drive technology that runs without belt. Manufacturers claim it reduces wear and tear and enhances durability. However, experts are of the opinion that there is no noteworthy difference between the conventional technology and invert drive.
It also has smart diagnosis app that communicates with the computer at the customer service center over mobile to help understand the cause of error and expedite the repair process. Unfortunately, a number of technicians who come for installation are not completely aware of the nuances of this technology or how to use it. So, it is advisable to watch this videoto know how to use the Smart Diagnosis technology.
A drawback however is that it doesn’t have the laundry add feature unlike Bosch and IFB washing machines mentioned below.
As mentioned earlier, Bosch comes out with flying colours if we assess it in terms of performance and durability. The WAK24268IN is quite user-friendly, flexible and versatile, thanks to its customizable wash programs.
The washing machine is pretty energy and water efficient. It consumes maximum of 47 L of water and 1 unit electricity for the cotton program which is the most elaborate of wash programs. Even when it runs at maximum RPM, the vibration and noise is minimal compared to other brand front loaders.
Talking about the features, Bosch WAK 24268 has 15 fully customizable wash programs that can be used to wash all varieties of clothes.
If you need to wash your clothes in a jiffy, you can use the Speed Perfect function that reduces wash time by up to 65%. Of course, you can expect observable difference in wash quality when you opt for this function. On the contrary, if you need your fabrics to be completely free off detergent and other residues, allergy plus wash program will do just that for you. Next, even if you unfortunately forget to add a piece of clothing for wash, you can add it mid-cycle with the laundry add feature.
Other features like Ecoperfect detects the fabric load and volume to adjust temperature and wash cycle duration for optimal performance.
When you check the wash quality, the performance is quite satisfactory with minimal vibration and noise. The washing machine’s foam detection system dilutes the lather in case it finds that you have added more detergent than required leading to excessive lathering.
Overall, it is one of the best options for families with 3-6 members, provided water supply at your home has sufficient pressure.
