IFB is one of the top selling washing machine brands machines in India.
Is it worth it? How durable are their products? How is their after sales support?
How do their individual models perform?
Let us find out.
IFB is considered as a pioneer when it comes to washing machines. All their products are of fairly good quality and are durable too.
That being said, their front load machines are considered to be of much superior quality than other brands, while when it comes to top loaders, they don’t have such a distinguished positioning.
After Sale Customer Service
An area where IFB lacks and falls quite behind its competitors is its after sales service. If you take a look at any online consumer forums or e-commerce portals, there are numerous complaints about delayed installation, unprofessional service and pushy technicians who are keen to sell stands and washing liquid rather than solving customer complaints.
So, in order not to be disappointed, be prepared to spend at least a week for a technician to come and install the machine.
From personal experience as well as from various reviews, it is pretty clear that IFB washing machines are highly durable.
My in-laws used an IFB front load washing machines for 20 years before switching to a new one. During this 20-year period, they hardly faced any complaints for the first 10 years. After that, they had a few problems because of a rat (the older models did not have rat mesh).
Overall, its durability makes you somewhat forgive their messy customer service. Without a doubt, we can say that IFB washing machines are worth every penny spent.
When you compare the price of IFB top loaders with other brands, IFB falls somewhere in the middle.
They are moderately priced considering the psyche of Indian consumers. It is neither the least expensive nor the most expensive of the lot.
General Review of IFB Top Load Washing Machines
As per IFB’s website, they presently have 11 models of top load washing machines. When you look at the features of each, you will understand that basically, it is just four models and its different variants in terms of capacity and a few extra features.
All IFB top loaders are deep clean machines that uses triadic pulsator, bi-axial rotation, aqua spa and aqua energie for removing tough stains without damaging the fabrics.
Other common features include bleach dispenser, softener dispenser, crescent moon drum, bubble leveler, aqua conserve, auto balance, smart sense ( fuzzy logic) and high voltage protection.
Now, the differentiating factors between the models are number of wash programs, colour, capacity, water inlet selection, 3D and 4D wash programs and fuzzy logic.
Capacity- IFB has a range of washing machines from 6.5 kg to 9.5kg. In each model, there are different colours and capacities of washing machines available.
Water inlet selection- While the base model of IFB has just a single cold water inlet, most of them have two inlet pipes for hot and cold water. Two of the higher end models with 8.5 and 9.5 kg capacity has in-built water heater that lets you select temperature of cold, 30, 40 and 60 degree Celsius.
3D and 4D wash programs- The basic difference between the two is the number of water jet streams. While 3D wash system uses 3 streams, 4D uses four streams that ensures detergent is completely dissolved and all clothes are uniformly washed.
Now, let us take a look at each models to find what differentiating features each has, its pros, cons and general review.
IFB TL-RDW is the basic model of IFB top loaders. It has 6 wash programs, 8 water levels, 3D wash and has just a single cold water inlet pipe.
This model is suitable mainly for smaller families with 4-5 members or less. Though it is the most basic model of IFB top loaders, it still has sufficient wash programs and uses an advanced wash system with pulsator technology, aqua spa and aqua energie to clean the clothes thoroughly with minimal damage to the fabrics.
The same model is available in sparkling silver colour as IFB TLRDS 6.5 Kg Top Load Washing Machine. Other than the colour change, rest of the features remain the same.
With 7 kg wash capacity, 8 wash programs and 10 water levels, IFB TL-SDG has two inlet pipes for hot and cold water ( Hot water pipe has to be connected to geyser as there is no in-built water heater). It also uses 3D wash system and has a drum lamp and tub dry setting to dry the drum after washing in order to prevent lime scale formation.
Although it has a number of useful features and wash programs, overall reviews aren’t quite positive because there are frequent complaints about damaged products being delivered, poor installation services and even occasional cases of clothes being damaged.
The same model is available in white as IFB TL SDW 7 kg Top load Washing Machine.
In sparkling silver colour, with 6.5 kg capacity, you have IFB TL SDR 6.5 Kg Washing Machine.
With 8.5 kg capacity, TL 85SCH uses 4D wash system and is one of the very few top loaders that have in-built heater that provides water ranging from temperature cold to 30, 40 and 60 degree Celsius.
It has 12 wash programs including “Saree” settings that minimizes creases and excessive tumbling; and favorite program where you can customize the wash settings and save for repeated use.
Owing to its huge capacity, the machine is suitable for large Indian families with 6-8 or more members. Other than a few remarks about dent in delivered washing machine and delayed installation, there are hardly any complaints.
IFB TLSDG Fully-automatic Top-loading Washing Machine (9.5 Kg, Graphite Grey)- Higher capacity and different colour.
IFB TL80SDG Fully-automatic Top-loading Washing Machine (8 Kg, Sparkling Silver)- Lower wash capacity, different colour and no in-built water heater.
